Windbox Modeling
Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) employed CFD modeling to simulate the Potomac Electric Company's Dickerson Unit 1 windbox for the purpose of analyzing air flow to the tangential furnace's burner columns. The CFD modeling was validated to pitot tube measurements taken from the duct midpoint, and then used to analyze air flow distribution to furnace corners. The model was used to assess the need for balancing the air flow to the corners. Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) employed multiple CFD blocks to model the air flow and distribution from the air heater outlet duct, up to the unit elevation, around the front and rear wall ducts, and down into the corners. |
