Tangential Fired Units
In 1998, Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) employed CFD modeling to design an FLGRTM system for Duke Power's Riverbend Unit 7. Riverbend 7 is a single furnace tangentially fired boiler capable of producing 140 MW. Riverbend 7 is equipped with the Low NOx Concentric Firing System, Level 1, and Close Coupled Over Fire Air (CCOFA) ports immediately above the burner columns. Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) employed CFD modeling to design FLGRTM gas injection locations. The CFD modeling was employed to integrate the FLGRTM system with the existing NOx controls. The concentric firing and CCOFA established air rich annulus surrounding the boiler walls, areas where the natural gas used in FLGRTM would not work well. The CFD modeling was used to calculate where those areas were and place FLGRTM injectors to avoid or penetrate through them. |
