Video Recording of Flame Characteristics

Some combustion problems are difficult to detect with typical plant instrumentation. Some problems involve irregular flames at the burner, where flames detach from the burner or burn in an uncharacteristic manner. It is often beneficial to visibly observe the flame to diagnose combustion problems that flame scanners and other instruments cannot. ESA uses a special video camera equipped with a tinted, heat resistant lens to record and diagnose combustion problems. The camera lens is placed in viewing a port adjacent to burners and provides high-clarity monitoring of the combustion process. The camera also records onto VHS-format tape for documentation and later viewing.
