Primary Air and Coal Flows
ESA understands the importance of balanced coal distribution. Primary air and coal flows are measured isokinetically inside individual coal pipes using a rotor probe. These measurements are taken to determine if a fuel balance exists among the burners in the furnace. In some cases, imbalances exist between different mills supplying a furnace and in other cases, imbalances can exist between different burners supplied by the same mill. When these imbalances occur unscheduled, the result is decreased boiler efficiency and poor operation. With improper coal distribution, various problematic conditions can coexist such as high levels of unburned carbon, increased NOx emissions, and flame impingement on boiler tubes. Boiler optimization efforts can be futile when coal flow to burners is assumed to be equal but is actually not. |
