ESP Performance and FGC Optimization

Another of ESA's many services is testing of electrostatic precipitator (ESP) performance and optimization of Flue Gas Conditioning (FGC) systems. This involves a series of emissions tests performed according to local DEP compliance testing procedures and reference methods of the EPA's Code of Federal Regulations (40CFR60).

To document ESP performance, gaseous emissions are analyzed and recorded, fuel samples are taken, upstream and downstream particulate emissions are collected and anylized and soot blowing recorded. From this information, gaseous pollutant emission rates, particulate emission rates, flyash carbon, and ductwork velocity head can be determined. These results are submitted to the client who uses the information to assess the particulate removal efficiency and overall performance of the ESP.

Many units are equipped with FGC systems that inject sulfur upstream of the precipitator to improve fly ash resistivity. By measuring flue gas SOx levels both upstream of the FGC and at the ESP inlet, ESA can optimize the FGC feed rate to improve ESP performance.
