Boiler Efficiency

Various methods exist to measure or calculate boiler efficiency. ESA typically uses the BTU Method, which provides accurate results but requires a considerable amount of manually gathered information. To perform this calculation ESA collects the following operating data:

  • economizer outlet flue gas analysis (O2, CO2, NOx, CO)
  • ultimate coal analysis
  • bottom ash carbon
  • flyash loading
  • flyash carbon
  • airheater outlet oxygen
  • airheater outlet gas temperature
  • airheater inlet air temperature
  • radiation losses (assumed)
  • unmeasured losses (assumed)

This information is used to first calculate detailed molar flue gas composistion, combustion stoichiometry, flue gas and combustible losses heat losses and finally boiler efficiency.
