About Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA)

Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) has a reputation for providing innovative and cost-effective solutions to NOx emissions and other boiler operating problems. Members of Steag Energy Services's (formerly ESA) professional staff have many years of experience working with electric utility and industrial clients in the following areas:

  • Designing and providing systems for NOx reduction.
  • Turnkey supply of NOx control systems.
  • Developing new technologies for NOx reduction.
  • Computational fluid dynamics modeling.
  • Feasibility studies and engineering for cofiring coal and natural gas.
  • Evaluating and recommending modifications for fuel switching.
  • Developing test programs.
  • Evaluating the impact of fuel properties on boiler performance.
  • Utilizing renewable energy sources.
  • Evaluation and design of cogeneration facilities.
  • Assessing boiler performance and
  • Making operational/equipment modifications to improve performance.
  • Modifying boilers to reduce emissions.
  • Analyzing particulate fallout and developing reduction programs.
  • Experimentally investigating combustion processes.
  • Assisting corporate management with long-range planning for pollution control.
  • Conducting on-site boiler testing and optimization projects.
  • Making air emission measurements from fossil fired boilers.

Through innovative experimentation and developmental test programs, Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) engineers have invented several technologies that have been successfully used to solve combustion related problems. Many of these technologies have been registered with the US Patent Office. These technologies range from methods of NOx reduction and prevention of NO formation to reduction of slag and fly ash formation and wall tube corrosion.

In addition to patents, Steag Energy Services (formerly ESA) engineers have several publications documenting breakthroughs and findings as a result of their efforts on combustion-related projects.
